On Party Tricks

Party tricks have their place in the world and knowing what that place is, is as important as honing your party trick. As a frequent hostess, I will selfishly say I do not like it when my guests perform party tricks without my prompting. I like to control the pace of the evening and often a surprise party trick throws a wrench in the plans. I also like to display my own party trick and like most people, I don’t like to be upstaged.

My party trick is sabering bottle - champagne bottles, beer bottles, anything bubbly will do. It’s a trick I reserve for my own parties with access to my own saber (which I was kindly gifted by my dearest friend, Linsey who knows me better than I know myself as indicated by her phenomenal gift giving skills).

Another important lesson I learned the hard way is if your party trick fails, you must laugh it off. You cannot be sour about failing at your party trick. If I can shatter a bottle of champagne in front of a bevy of iPhone cameras and laugh it off, I guarantee your failed trick warrants a chuckle too.

If you have a party trick, read the room and your host or hostess before showing off your unique talent!
