Colette-tions: Stationery
I have loved stationery for as long as I can remember. I hated writing thank you notes as a child, as most do, but I loved when my mother would pull out my set of stationery, lined with flowers and hearts, my first name printed at the top. It was special and it was all mine.
Etiquette Analysis: Personal Stationery
“You may or may not - as you wish - draw a line through the engraved name if the message is signed informally with a Christian name.” - Amy Vanderbilt (1952), Amy Vanderbilt’s Everyday Etiquette, 162.
Cocktail Hour
Despite its name, a cocktail hour doesn’t need to include cocktails or be limited to an hour. Wine or beer will suffice; even a mocktail will do. Speaking of, I recently had a Shirley Temple and honestly, they’re just as delicious as an adult. In my book, snacks are required but any snack will do.
The Power of Placecards
No matter the number of guests or the size of the table, I like to include placecards. I believe it is the easiest way to make your guests feel comfortable at your table.
Etiquette Analysis: Table Manners
“All the rules of table manners are made to avoid ugliness. To let anyone see what you have in your mouth is repulsive; to make a noise is to suggest an animal; to make a mess is disgusting.”
Time to Par-Tee!
In the interest of full disclosure, I don’t really like to watch golf, nor do I play golf. The few times I’ve swung a golf club, I was pretty subpar (did I just make a golf pun?!). But I love a good theme so while golf is not a sport I love, it is a theme I’ll embrace.
(Pizza) Rolling Into April
When I host people for a meal, I try not to repeat what I serve but there are some meals that are just too good and this is one of them.
